The Govt. Degree College, Baruva was established in 1981 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to cater to the needs of under graduate students in and around the village, Baruva. Before its establishment, there was no institute for higher education [under graduate courses] within 60 km radius of the town in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Realizing the dire need for establishment of a Govt. Degree College, the then MLA,.Kottapalli Narasayya, consulted the authorities and procured land and other necessities to start the college. As a result of his efforts along with some prominent people of the village, the college was founded in 1981.  Ever since its inception, it had been affiliated to Andhra University, Visakhapatnam till 2011-12. Since 2010-11 it has been affiliated to Dr.BRAmbedkar University, Srikakulam. It has also been recognized by the UGC under 2F and 12B of UGC act since 1st July 1992.

          Located in peaceful ambience and functioning in its own campus, ours is an institution for higher education that promises academic excellence of the students by ensuring quality education towards fulfillment of their dreams of employment both in government and private sectors. With its committed and dedicated faculty, the college aims not only to mould future citizens of India with societal responsibilities but also to equip them with knowledge and skills necessary for their employment in the globalized context.  The college focuses on strengthening the morale of the students the present-day competition world. It offers education in both arts, commerce and science groups for the all round development of student personality in consonance with present day academic and employment requirements. We are running our college in shift system, i.e in the morning session science classess are conducted while in the afternoon session arts and commerce courses are conducted.
